From Réunion to Pico: A Journey of Music, Dance, and Connection
When you pass through Silveira, just beyond the church, your eyes can’t help but catch a flash of red — doors painted bright against a whitewashed wall. They look almost theatrical, an open invitation to step into another world. As you push them open, you enter a courtyard alive with movement.
Vines climb over a shaded patio, scattering sunlight across the walls. Ducks and chickens wander freely. Here, within this gentle rhythm of daily life, the world of Jean Daniel Senesi unfolds — a space where art and community meet in harmony.
Throughout the week, the air fills with energy. Students sing, dance the chamarrita, and practice tap, yoga, or wushu. Meanwhile, laughter echoes through the rooms, and music mingles with quiet concentration. The result is a vibrant soundscape — a living portrait of creativity in motion.
Origins and Evolution
Jean Daniel was born on Réunion Island, a volcanic crossroads of cultures and languages. His heritage — French, Creole, Corsican, Indian, and Italian — shaped his curiosity and his sense of belonging to many worlds at once.
Initially, he studied engineering in France, drawn to logic and precision. However, beneath the formulas, another question kept rising: where is the emotion, the movement — the human part of it? Eventually, that question became his compass.
After the fall of the Iron Curtain, he set off across Europe. First came Berlin, then long roads that led him to Russia, and finally St. Petersburg. There, surrounded by art and resilience, he discovered performance as his true calling. Singing, acting, and exploring movement became his way of understanding life.
Later, back in France, he joined the musical Zapping (2001–2004), marking his first major success. His magnetic presence and voice soon gained recognition in competitions and festivals. Through each performance, he learned that art was more than expression — it was connection.
Arrival on Pico
In 2018, Jean Daniel arrived on Pico Island. Once again, an island’s elemental energy drew him in. At first, it might have seemed a quiet retreat. However, he soon discovered not isolation, but connection — an echo of Réunion’s creative spirit.
Soon after, he began performing with Manuel Costa, the Canarinho brothers, Marcos Fernandes, and Jazzband Jazzmin. At the same time, he immersed himself in local traditions, learning the chamarrita from Pico’s elders. As a result, he began teaching it to younger generations, ensuring this living dance would continue.
His classes blend play, movement, and music. Through gentle guidance, students rediscover their voices and confidence. Ultimately, his joyful approach helps even the shyest find laughter and rhythm in the island’s heartbeat.

Siegfried Filiberto: Art in Collaboration
From this creative energy emerged Siegfried Filiberto, a trilogy musical comedy written and directed by Jean Daniel. The first act premiered at the Whale Museum in Lajes in October 2024. The second followed in May 2025, and the final act is set for 2026.
The story follows an old misanthrope who hosts a classical concert. However, a postal delay leaves him with only one piece — and a reluctant guitarist. What begins as a fiasco soon turns into collective improvisation, as audience and performers imagine the missing music together.
In this way, the play becomes a reflection on transformation — how art and community can turn failure into shared laughter and renewal.
Meanwhile, during the writing process, Jean Daniel envisioned a cultural exchange between Pico and Paris. Together with local collaborators, he founded Croissant, a group that raised funds through bake sales, summer festas, and chamarrita dinners.
Eventually, the exchange culminated in Paris with the premiere of Une force irrésistible, a documentary by Guy Baudon that received warm acclaim. The film offers a vivid portrait of Jean Daniel’s life on Pico, capturing the island’s creative force — its deep invitation to cooperate, create, and connect.
Today, on Pico, this homme universel has found a home that reflects his art — open, transformative, and profoundly human.

Looking Ahead
Now, Jean Daniel is preparing his next project: the Broadway Concert, premiering at the Whale Museum in Lajes on November 28th. Soon after, a Broadway Musical will follow in January 2027.
Anyone can join the journey — whether by enrolling in his singing or tap dance classes in Silveira, or by simply attending a performance. Again and again, those who believe they “can’t perform” soon discover they can. With empathy and joy, Jean Daniel helps each person uncover the performer within.
